Michael Skibbe will focus on discipline and tactical awareness
The only time that the Greece national football team have won a real big or important piece of silverware was back in 2004 when they sealed the Euro’s of that year.
Ever since then, the Greece national side have struggled trying to make an impact at the big stage but the current coach of the team Michael Skibbe wants to solely concentrate on what made the squad big in 2004 and according to the German manager this was dude to discipline and tactical awareness that made Greece become the champions 12 years ago and he will try to replicate their success of some time ago.
“The team has their strengths and weaknesses as they have done for the past two years. Although we’re working hard on defence and are solid at the back, there’s still scope to improve our build-up play and creativity going forward. I believe in good discipline and strong tactical awareness on the pitch. That was the foundation for Greece’s strongest years in the 2000s.’’ Michael Skibbe of Greece said as he stated what his priorities will be as he attempts to spark the Greece national team back to life.
Michael Skibbe was selected as the new coach of Greece back on October of 2015 after the former coach Sergio Markarian failed to make the national side qualify for the 2016 Euro’s and Skibbe is an accomplished manager who has taken charge of numerous clubs including: Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and Galatasaray just to name a few and Skibbe has also served as an assistant manager to the German national football team.
After not being able to qualify for the 2016 Euro’s, the Greece national side is getting ready for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers and the team of Michael Skibbe have a number of friendly matches where they will be playing against Montenegro and Iceland both of these matches are scheduled to take place in March and will serve as preparation for the approaching 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
