Claudio Ranieri remain Manager of Greece Football Team for 4 Months

Claudio Ranieri spent 4 months in charge of the Greece national football team before being sacked due to the string of defeats that the national side experienced after losing against Romania, Northern Ireland and Faroe Islands. All of these defeats have placed Greece on the bottom spot of Group F in the 2016 Euro’s group stages.

The former coach of the Peruvian national team Sergio Markarián was elected as the new coach of the Greek side. After it was officially confirmed and announced that Markarian was going to be the successor of Ranieri, the Uruguayan coach expressed his joy concerning his new managerial job as Markarian said:

“Being given the responsibility of coaching the Greece national team is a great honor for me. I would like to thank the federation for choosing me. We have a tough task ahead, but I believe in my ability and in the potential of Greek football. We will all do our best to achieve our aims, starting with our upcoming encounter in Hungary.’’

Markarian has already coached Greek clubs as he has taken charge of Panathinaikos, Ionikos and Irklis during the years 1998-2004. The 70 year old manager is entering known territory as this is something that he knows what has to be done when it comes to managing national sides and Greek teams but this new task of Markarian will be his toughest one yet.

Greece was just barely not able to make it into the quarter-finals of the 2014 World Cup after losing against Costa Rica in a penalty session when both sides faced off with in the Round of 16 which was the furthest and best position that the Greek nation have ever secured in their entire history and now it’s going to be a fairly big disappointment if after having made such a successful campaign that they are now unable to get into the 2016 Euro’s.

This is the priority of Markarian, try to push Greece to the next rounds of the 2016 Euro’s and snatch a spot in France.
