AUSTRIA FRIENDLY
The Greece football team will take on Austria in a friendly fixture on Wednesday at Red Bull Arena.
Greece has had a decent 2013 so far. They are yet to lose a game this year. They have played a total of 4 games out of which they have won 3. The remaining 1 game was a draw.
On the other hand, for Austria, this hasn’t been a fruitful year. They have won only 50% of the matches that they have played this year.
Both the teams are in a decent position in their respective World Cup qualifying groups at the moment. Austria is at no. 2 in Group C with 11 points in 6 games. They are 5 points behind the table toppers Germany.
Greece is in a slightly better position in its group which is Group G. They are also at the second position with 13 points, but, they have only 3 points less than the table toppers Bosnia and Herzegovina.
For Greece, Kostas Mitroglou will be a vital player against Austria. The 25 years old Olympiacos striker hasn’t got too many starting opportunities in international matches so far in his career, but, he has made his mark in substitute appearances. He might be starting in this game in the absence of some senior forwards.
For Austria, the young player on whom everyone’s eyes will be is David Alaba. He is a very promising youngster and if he gets an opportunity, he might make a difference. He is a solid left back and has already started matches for Bayern Munich in Bundesliga.
Greece can be considered as favourite in this game because of the recent form, but, Austria can’t be written off. They will be playing in their home conditions and with crowd getting behind them; they might pull off an upset.
