KARAGOUNIS OFFERED EXTENSION
The Fulham manager Martin Jol has revealed that Giorgios Karagounis is likely to stay at the club after the end of the season after the London club has opened talks with the player. The 36-year-old has been one of the impressive players for Fulham this season, and the Dutchman is keen to retain his services. As a result, he has revealed that Fulham have held talks with the player over the possibility of extending his contract, which runs out at the end of the season. Jol has said that he may not be the youngest player within the squad, but he is one player he misses every time he is not on the pitch.
Jol has recalled how he had to leave out Karagounis due to the fact that the Greece utilised him in the international friendly match for more than 70 min. In his absence, Jol had to play Emmanuel Frimpong, who was not very effective. The 36-year-old was once again an influential part of Fulham’s win over Stoke City during the weekend. The 1-0 win over Stoke City has helped Fulham climb to within one point of Stoke, who are 10th in the table. This was only the second victory for the London club in the last five matches.
“Giorgios loves to play here. And if we feel the moment is right we will sit down with him and offer him a new contract. He’s not the youngest. But every time we get other players in, you miss him. Last week I didn’t play him because I was annoyed because he was playing for the Greece national team, he played 70 minutes and that is not what you want, so I played Emmanuel Frimpong,” said the Fulham manager. The club will be playing Sunderland during the weekend hoping for a good end to the season.
