CELTIC HAVING A DIFFICULTY TO OFFLOAD EXPENSIVE STAR

According to reports in Sweden, Scottish Premiership club Celtic are finding it quite difficult to find a new club for goalkeeoer Vasilis Barkas. It had been reported that IFK Goteborg were his destination as he is no longer needed at the club following the arrival of former Manchester City shot-stopper Joe Hart. Greek goalkeeper Barkas was signed from Glasgow in the summer transfer window of 2020 and a lot of expectations were immediately placed on him following his £5 million move from Greek League side AEK Athens, his homeland. However, he has since struggled miserably to settle in Scotland and has put in a lot of poor performances.

Celtic were hoping that IFK Goteborg would continue with their plans to sign the goalkeeper on a season-long loan move but according to a respected Swedish media outlet Aftonblodet, the club have turned their sights to another goalkeeper instead. Former Bournemouth and Aston Villa goalkeeper Orjan Nyland has now been earmarked as IFK Goteborg’s number one choice after his contract was terminated by the Cherries on the final day of the transfer window.

The fact that they are a kw to sign Nylan on a fee transfer appeals to the Allsvenskan outfit plus they also see him as a much better option overall than Barkas.

Celtic will now be hoping that they can offer Barkas a little more game time than he has been getting so that he can rediscover some of his lost confidence, boost his performances, and then possible attract more suitors this summer. Getting the Greek goalie a new club would be one of their priorities heading into the summer and if they are able to do so, it I would help them continue making plans for other areas of the squad.
