Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold missed the UEFA Champions League (UCL) clash with FC Porto on Tuesday night due to injury. The England international has been impressive for Liverpool in their run to the Premier League summit this seasonbut he has now miss two games in the last two weeks for various reasons.
England national team right-back Trent played every game for Liverpool this season until the Premier League home encounter with London club Crystal Palace penultimate weekend. Trent missed the Palace game due to illness but it didn’t matter much as the Reds ran out 3-0 winners to move to the top of the Premier League standings for the first time this season. As a matter of fact, Liverpool manager JurgenKloppwas without his first choice fullbacks in his starting XI for the Palace game. James Milner deputised for Trent at right-back, while Greece national team player KostantinosTsimikas was in for Andy Robertson at left-back.
Klopp rested his first team players for the Carabao Cup third round meeting with bottom Premier League side Norwich City which ended in a 3-0 win. Trent missed the game as he was still recovering from the illness that forced him to miss the Palace game though he would have been rested if he was fit.
For the 5-1 away win over FC Porto, Trent missed the game due to a groin injury. Veteran England midfielder James Milner started the Porto game at right-back in the absence of Trent but Scotland international Robertson retained his spot at left-back as Greece player Tsimikas started the game on the bench. The Greece national team left-back spent the whole game on the substitutes’ bench.
Without Trent, Liverpool cruised to a big win over Porto thanks to the brace from the duo of Mohamed Salah and substitute Roberto Firmino, while Sadio Mane was also on target. Iranian star Mehdi Taremi scored the lone goal for Porto.
