CHUBA AKPOM EYES GREEK TITLE WITH PAOK
Former England u21 player Chuba Akpom, made a difficult decision in the summer of 2018 to join Greek side PAOK Thessaloniki. But his decision to join the Greek clubis beginning to pay dividends. The sale of prolific striker Aleksandar Prijovic, in January has opened the door to more regular football at PAOK for the 23-year-old. The rising attacking sensation is keen on the opportunity to help PAOK to their first Greek title after three decades.
While speaking to journalist after the match, he said when a player starts playing regularly everything opens up and starts getting better. He talked about Olympiakos, and how the match against them isthe biggest game so far in his career. He said football in Greece is just like a religion, and it was the first time hefelt the emotion going into a match. He went further saying how The fans had been waiting for the match for years because finally PAOK are above Olympiakos on the league standings.
Akpom was one of Arsenal’s brightest prospects as he came through their academy. But he made the decision to leave when he realised that his dream of playing for the first team wasn’t forthcoming. Akpom, who made only four senior appearances for Arsenal had loan spella at Brentford, Coventry, Forest, Hull, Brighton and Belgian side Sint-Truiden, said.
He said he remembered when he made the move to Greece, how people were asking why he made such move, but he presently feels like he is finally justifying the move, and finally showing people why he went to Greece. Akpom insisted that playing for PAOK is not for the faint-hearted, with the intimidating atmosphere at the Toumba Stadium a challenge to timid players.
